The research is focused on the social and philosophical analysis of the phenomenon of education in the paradigmatic dimension of the educational space of Western Europe and North America. This work is an interdisciplinary research with prevailing philosophical methodology, which allowed of detailed covering the selected problem. Using paradigmatic approach the author analyzed the reflection of education by the key philosophical schools in the context of western scientific views, specified the concept and categories of education, researched the axiological grounds of the content of modern education, dealt with the peculiarities of modern western educational space as well as the specific character of Ukrainian educational space, emphasized the main ways of modernization of Ukrainian educational model under the influence of the worldwide social, economic and educational tendencies. It was grounded that the core concepts of optimization of Ukrainian education are fundamentalization, humanization and liberalization, which are directed on the development of harmonious holistic personality. The research showed that the new quality of values- and personality-oriented education is connected with the cultural context, which adds personal meaning to education and determine the level of human activity, the extent of human involvement in the culture of native country.
